Swansea City legend Alan Curtis to be honoured as club reveal he will retire from coaching this summer

Swansea City legend Alan Curtis will retire from first-team coaching at the end of the current campaign.

The Welshman made more than 400 appearances in three separate spells as a player with the club and has been a monumental figure behind-the-scenes in a coaching capacity in more recent years.

However, the club have announced - on what is Curtis' 65th birthday - that the icon will be named as honorary club president this summer when he finishes his current role.

“After over 40 years serving the club, I felt this was the right time to step back from day-to-day involvement,” Curtis told the club's official website.

“After considering this for some time, the end of the season was the correct time for me to finish my coaching career.

“I am now looking forward to seeing how this young team progresses under Graham while serving my new role as Honorary Club President."

Curtis scored 110 times during his playing career with the Swans and has been an instrumental figure for the club since hanging up his boots.

He has held several roles with the Swans over the years, from being caretaker manager to working as the club's first loan player manager.

The 65-year-old's new role will see him involved in media commitments, official club duties and match day hospitality.

The summer signing Swansea City are yet to see the best of and the stat that offers hope for the future
