Swansea City lead chase for ex-West Brom star, Leeds United want Wolves trialist and Liverpool eye teen dubbed 'the next Wayne Rooney' - Championship transfer news

The latest transfer news from around the Championship

Swans keen on former Baggies winger

Swansea City are leading the race for Congolese winger Thievy Bifouma, according to reports.

The Swans are one of several clubs keen on the 28-year-old, who is currently plying his trade for struggling Turkish side Yeni Malatyaspor.

Bifouma netted six goals in 20 games before the season was suspended due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, and he has emerged as a target for the Swans.

The player himself is believed to be keen on a return to English football after spending a half-season loan spell with West Brom back in 2014, where he scored two goals in just six appearances.

He has also netted 13 goals in 28 games for the Democratic Republic of Congo, and is believed to have a fair number of potential suitors.

With one year left on his current deal with the Turkish outfit and the option of another, it's not yet clear what sort of price tag he would command.

Swansea's transfer kitty, still suffering the pinch of relegation from the Premier League, is likely to be further hit by the season's suspension, with the club already making the decision to defer wages in light of the current crisis.

It therefore seems unlikely that they will have too much money to spend in the next the transfer window - whenever that may be.

Leeds and Forest battle over defender

Championship rivals Leeds United and Nottingham Forest are both keen on signing Hartlepool United youngster Harrison Webster.

Teamtalk reports that the in-demand 17-year-old is also being chased by Wolves, where he was previously on trial.

The player also spent some time at Elland Road with the Whites keen to open discussions with Hartlepool over a possible deal.

However, the league leaders will face competition from Forest, as well as Bristol City and League One side Sunderland, who also have an eye on Webster.

Leicester and Liverpool eye Wigan forward

Wigan Athletic striker Joe Gelhardt is reportedly on the radar of Leicester City, with the Foxes looking to beat Liverpool to his signature.

The two Premier League clubs have been keeping tabs on the 18-year-old this campaign with the table toppers looking to take the Liverpool-born star back to his home city.

However, the Leicester Mercury suggests that Brendan Rodgers could hijack the move to sign the forward dubbed "the next Wayne Rooney" ahead of his old club.

The report also says Leicester could sign the player at a knock-down price with the Latics potentially needing to sell due to financial troubles.

West Brom make Muriqi contact

West Brom are ‘seriously interested’ in signing Fenerbahce striker Vedat Muriqi and have apparently made contact with the Turkish club over the player’s availability.

VOLE via SportWitness says Baggies manager Slavan Bilic is a big fan of Muriqi and the club will look to launch a bid if they are promoted to the Premier League next season.

The report also states the Turkish side will ask for around £18 million for the player.

Kosovo international Muriqi has scored 15 times in all competitions for Fenerbahce this campaign.
