Swansea City in contract talks with key duo as Steve Cooper continues long-term planning

Swansea City are in talks to hand Jay Fulton and Steven Benda new contracts with the club.

Fulton has been a key figure for Steve Cooper's side this season, featuring 19 times in all competitions, scoring his solitary goal of the term in Swansea's 2-0 triumph over Stoke City in October.

His versatility has also been a major plus, with the Scot able to operate in different roles within a two or three-man midfield.

However, Fulton's contract is due to expire following the conclusion of the current campaign.

But Swansea are exploring the option of extending Fulton's deal imminently as they continue their bid to secure promotion into the Premier League.

It is hoped that goalkeeper Benda will also sign fresh terms with the club having made his first team bow this season.

The German shot stopper impressed during his loan spell with Swindon Town last season and was installed as Swansea's No.2 for the 2020/21 campaign following the return of Freddie Woodman from Newcastle United.

And the Swans are poised to hand the 22-year-old a new deal given that his existing contract expires in the summer of 2022.

Benda made his senior debut for Swansea in the 2-1 win over Millwall at the Liberty Stadium in October.

Both players are likely to be in the matchday squad for Swansea's FA Cup third round clash with Stevenage at The Lamex Stadium this weekend.

Fulton joined the Swans from Falkirk in 2014 while Benda arrived from 1860 Munich in 2017.
