Swansea City headlines as starlet gets first pro deal and rival a doubt with whiplash-type injury

Your Swansea City headlines for Thursday, March 10.

Starlet signs first pro contract

Cameron Congreve has signed his first professional contract with Swansea.

The talented midfielder - who has been included in the last two first-team matchday squads - has put pen to paper on a new deal which runs through until the summer of 2024.

The Swans also have the option to extend Congreve's deal by an additional 12 months.

“I’m delighted, I’m absolutely buzzing to be honest, it’s what I’ve been working towards for many many years and it’s nice that I’ve finally got here, and I get to sign my first professional contract," said Congreve.

“I was over the moon to be involved in the matchday squads. I was absolutely buzzing when I found out about being in the squad for the Coventry game, I didn’t expect it to happen at all, it kind of just came out of the blue.

“I got called up to train with the first team the week before and I thought I trained alright, but then it just came out of nowhere and I was just buzzing, I just couldn’t stop thinking about it.

“I just want to keep working hard and hopefully get some minutes for the first team and get onto the pitch at the Swansea.com Stadium soon."

On his attributes, Congreve commented: “I would describe myself as a creative player, I’m quite direct, I like to score goals and make things happen, creating chances and hopefully winning games."

Seasiders team news

Blackpool have a number of injury concerns ahead of their clash with Swansea this weekend.

Jordan Thorniley is being carefully monitored after suffering a whiplash-type injury during his side's win over Stoke City last time out.

Jamie Husband could return to action after recovering from a hamstring injury, although Richard Keogh (calf), Jordan Gabriel (hamstring), Luke Garbutt (knee) and Sonny Carey (metatarsal) will all miss out while Matty Virtue and Grant Ward are long-term absentees.

Keshi Anderson and Chris Maxwell have resumed light training following spells on the sidelines but will not be ready to face Russell Martin's men.

Kick-off is at 3pm on Saturday.

Ladies secure vital victory

Swansea City Ladies secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over title rivals Cardiff Met to cement their grip on the top spot in the Genero Adran Premier.

Chloe Chivers and Stacey John-Davis both struck to hand Chris Church's side a commanding lead in Llandarcy.

Emily Allen responded for the capital outfit, although the hosts held on for victory to extend their lead at the summit of the table to seven points.

The Swans return to action against third-placed Cardiff City on Sunday, March 20.
