Swansea City headlines as Rob Page explains Ben Cabango's Wales absence, Arsenal legend reveals Swans job talks and club investor joins DC United ownership

Your latest Swansea City headlines for Tuesday, September 28.

Page explains Cabango's Wales absence

Ben Cabango has not been included in the Wales squad for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Czech Republic and Estonia.

The defender missed the previous camp after returning a positive coronavirus test but is now fully fit.

However, head coach Rob Page has revealed he was willing to sacrifice a defender to include an additional attacker in his latest 28-man squad.

"We've got lots [of defenders], I like that balance of a left-sided centre-half to have a left foot," said Page.

"Ben's played well, he kept a clean sheet last week and he's back in the Championship and playing all right.

"It's not that he'll never not be back involved in the squad, it's just that, for this one, I've probably gone for one more attacking player than one more defender with what's riding on the game."

Brandon Cooper and Dan Williams have been included in the Wales Under-21 squad for their upcoming Euro qualifiers against Moldova and the Netherlands.

Arsenal legend's Swans admission

Sol Campbell has revealed he previously held talks with Swansea City over a managerial vacancy at the club.

The former England defender has been out of work since leaving Southend United in June last year.

And the 47-year-old - who took his Pro Licence with the Football Association of Wales - says he is willing to work abroad after failing to land a role for more than 12 months.

“I’ve applied for England Under-21s, Bristol Rovers, Bristol City, I had a chat with Swansea, MK Dons, Doncaster, Ipswich, Preston – the list just goes on over the course of a couple of years in recent times," he told FourFourTwo.

“I’m open to going abroad as well, and if a manager said, ‘Sol, would you come in and work with me’, I’d look at that too – I nearly helped Thierry Henry with the defence when he was managing in Canada, but then there were the travel restrictions with quarantining and it didn’t work out."

Silverstein joins DC United ownership group

Jake Silverstein is one of four figures to join D.C. United's expanded ownership group.

The American businessman was appointed to Swansea's board of directors last year after issuing a loan to the club - with that sum being matched by Jason Levien and Steve Kaplan.

And it has been confirmed that Silverstein joins Mario “Yo Gotti” Mims, Adam Gerry and Joe Mamo in co-owning the Major League Soccer side.

“As D.C. United continue to grow it was important for us to add a diverse blend of experience and expertise to our ownership group to further elevate our business,” said Levien and Kaplan in a joint-statement.

“We are really excited about the knowledge and know-how that this group of investors bring to our club. The diversity of this group, paired with the addition of Mark Ingram II whom we welcomed as an owner earlier this year, truly rings in a new era for D.C. United.

"As we continue to evolve, we are confident that the expanded ownership group will help us to further engage our fanbase – both existing and new, create additional forms of entertainment, and ultimately deliver a pathway for success for our club both on the pitch and in the community.”

Silverstein attended Swansea's 0-0 draw with Sheffield United in August while he was also in the stands as Russell Martin's men were beaten 3-1 by Stoke City.

He is expected to return to south Wales later this year on a short-term basis in a bid to oversee day-to-day matters at the Swansea.com Stadium.

Prutton's Fulham prediction

Sky Sports pundit David Prutton predicts that Fulham will earn victory against Swansea when the pair meet on Wednesday night.

The Swans are looking to secure back-to-back league victories for the first time this season when they take on the Cottagers.

"Fulham have just slipped a little in recent games in terms of results, and have at times looked a little less than the sum of their parts," Prutton wrote in his latest Sky Sports predictions.

"It just proves how tough this league is, considering there was early talk of how they may well have run away with it.

"Swansea got back to winning ways on Saturday with a narrow victory over Huddersfield.

"It will have done Russell Martin the world of good in what is surely a season of consolidation for them, but I think Fulham will have too much at Craven Cottage."

Prutton's prediction: Fulham 2-1 Swansea City
