Swansea City headlines as Middlesbrough lead chase for Arsenal star and Burnley's Jack Cork reveals Connor Roberts' rise

These are your Swansea City headlines on Monday, November 15.

Boro in for Balogun

The Sun report that Middlesbrough boss Chris Wilder is keen on making a loan move for Arsenal's Folarin Balogun in January.

The striker put prospective suitors red alert last week admitting he was considering a "new challenge" away from the Emirates Stadium.

Swansea were linked with the 19-year-old, who is hot property, last January, Liverpool have been credited with permanent interest, while there is a queue of clubs wanting to sign him on loan.

Boro and Sheffield United are said to be on that list, but how solid the Swansea links are remains to be seen. Head coach Russell Martin is believed to be on the lookout for more firepower in January.

"I have played youth football for a little while, I have obviously scored a lot of goals at that level and improved at that level drastically from when I started," Balogun said last week to notify clubs of his intentions.

"I do feel like I am ready for a new challenge but I am not sure what that might be, it might be a loan or if I am needed at Arsenal then I am here and the gaffer knows that.

"I am definitely open to a new challenge but it is something that whatever that challenge is I will be ready.

"I know the potential I could have and that I need to achieve is massive. I haven't achieved it yet. What I see now I would just describe as glimpses, things that need to be worked on and can be improved.

"The performances I am putting in are all I can do at the moment. I know that I am going in the right direction."

Cork: Standards always high at Swans

Former Swans midfielder says he knew Connor Roberts was going to make it at the top level, describing the standards at Swansea as "always high".

Cork witnessed Roberts coming through the ranks in Landore, alongside the likes of Daniel James and Oli McBurnie who trained with the first team.

Cork and Roberts are now team-mates again at Burnley and the former says he knew the young defender would succeed.

"He trained with us a lot before his loans, I always saw him around the place," said Cork of their time together at Swansea.

"We had a really good group of under-23s at Swansea with him, Dan James, Oli McBurnie, there was a good group of them, they were good players, they'd come and train with us and the standards were always high.

"With the standard being so high in that group they never looked out of place when they trained with us, which has helped them become good professional players."

Cork added: "He is technically very good, his athleticism is amazing, he's a great runner and he's strong.

"He's picked up a lot of confidence through the national team, a slot has opened up for him there, he's taken it and ended up scoring a lot of goals at Swansea.

"I'm pleased to see him doing really well. He has looked sharp [in training]."

Southgate: Gallagher on England radar since Swans days

England boss Gareth Southgate says they have been aware of Conor Gallagher since his loan stint at Swansea.

Chelsea's Gallagher, on loan at Crystal Palace this season, has been called up into Southgate's senior squad and could play against San Marino on Monday night.

Southgate confirmed they have been tracking the 21-year-old for some time, citing the relationship with the staff at Swansea as key.

“We’ve been very impressed with him,” said the England manager. “We’ve tracked him for a very long time in his loan spells at Charlton, Swansea - we knew the staff there very well - at West Brom and now at Crystal Palace.

“In each loan he has done extremely well. He has started the season very well with Palace.

“We talked about him when we named the original squad as somebody we were keen to keep an eye on and I suppose it’s one of the benefits of being with the Under-21s because it was an easy transition for us to bring him across. He was already Covid tested and going from one to the other was straightforward.

“That’s not to say he is only there because of that - he is here because he deserves to be here - but it was an easy transition for us to make.”
