Swansea City headlines as Man City target has loan terminated and ex-boss moves to Brazil amid controversy

These are your Swansea City headlines on Thursday, December 30.

Doyle has loan terminated

Reports in Germany suggest that Manchester City starlet Tommy Doyle's loan stay at Hamburger SV is now over.

Kicker state that the deal will come to a premature end.

"Tommy Doyle will almost certainly not return to HSV," they report.

"The loan from Manchester City, behind which there was an unsatisfactory half-year with only 71 minutes of use, would have to be quarantined for two weeks after the home leave. It will probably not come to that, Doyle will instead terminate his contract with HSV."

Doyle is believed to be a target of Swansea City and Russell Martin next month - with Blackpool and Barnsley also in the hunt for the midfielder.

Sousa leaves Poland for Brazil

Former Swansea boss Paulo Sousa has had his contract with Poland terminated - and has immediately joined Brazilian outfit Flamengo as their new manager.

Sousa had asked to be relieved of his duties earlier this week after getting an offer from the Brazilian top-flight club, a request the Polish FA president Cezary Kulesza called “extremely irresponsible”.

However on Wednesday a parting of ways occurred and just a few hours later Sousa wrote on Twitter: “This is a message for the biggest fanbase in the world. It is with pride and satisfaction that I am to represent a club as incomparably great as Flamengo. It is time to work hard together to bring joy and trophies.”

His move has not gone down well, with his decision slammed by former German international Lukas Podolski, who branded it "very poor behaviour".

The 13 players linked so far

In a little over 24 hours the January transfer window opens.

It is an opportunity for Swansea City and their Championship rivals to bolster their squads as we approach the halfway stage of the season.

There is no doubting that head coach Russell Martin would like to add to his options next month, with defence and attack likely to be addressed.

The ongoing impact of Covid-19 will nevertheless have a bearing on business across the division if not entire continents, with clubs perhaps less keen on letting players leave and pursestrings that bit tighter.

Swansea have, though, been linked with a plethora of talent over the past few weeks and months.

We've taken a look at the players mentioned as possible targets for Martin and Co so far...

Fulham game off

Swansea's game against Fulham at the Swansea.com Stadium is now off after the hosts reported a "considerable number" of Covid cases within the squad.

"Swansea City’s Championship fixture against Fulham has been postponed," a statement read on the club website.

"The game had been due to take place on Monday, January 3 at 3pm at the Swansea.com Stadium.

"This is due to a considerable number of positive COVID-19 cases within the playing squad.

"The club has worked hard to try and ensure it would be able to fulfil the fixture, however, the amount of positive cases means the club do not have a sufficient amount of players available for selection."
