Swansea City headlines as goalkeeper bid accepted, Liverpool loanee latest plus young gun signs contract

Your Swansea City headlines for Monday, January 10.

Fisher bid accepted

MK Dons have accepted a transfer bid from Swansea for goalkeeper Andy Fisher.

WalesOnline revealed in November that the 23-year-old had emerged as a transfer target for Russell Martin.

And it has been confirmed that the League One outfit will allow Fisher to complete a permanent move to south Wales.

“It’s disappointing, timing wise, and with how it’s played out with the noise and disruption. He won’t be involved tomorrow," said MK Dons boss Liam Manning ahead of his side's clash with Wimbledon.

Steven Benda started the season as the club's first choice goalkeeper but fell down in the pecking order after Ben Hamer stepped up to the plate.

As a result, the German is understood to be eager to move on to play regularly elsewhere.

Fisher is expected to join the Swans on a long-term deal for a six-figure sum, believed to be around £400,000.

He will challenge Hamer - whose current deal expires in the summer, although it is hoped it will be renewed - for the No.1 jersey at Swansea.

Fisher became a key cog under Martin at MK Dons and is expected to slot in seamlessly with regards to the club's style of play.

Rhys Williams update

Russell Martin is eager to keep Rhys Williams at Swansea for the duration of his season-long loan deal from Liverpool.

The defender has struggled to get regular game-time in south Wales and played just six minutes of his side's extra-time FA Cup third- round loss to Southampton last time out.

Parent club Liverpool are unimpressed with the amount of minutes Williams has played at Swansea, although they are yet to make a decision on whether or not to recall him prematurely.

And Martin believes the Swans will hear from Jurgen Klopp's side in the coming over their decision on the 20-year-old.

"He is back training - he was one that was isolating through Covid," said the head coach.

"He has been a joy to work with. I think he has improved a lot since he has been here and his attitude has been spot on.

"The conversations have been that he is happy here but I guess it is up to Liverpool to decide what is best for his development, whether it's trying to be here and fighting to get into the team or whether they feel he will be better off somewhere else.

"I think we will get some more clarity on that in the next week or so."

Young gun signs new deal

Dan Williams has signed a new contract with Swansea.

The midfielder's previous deal was due to expire in the summer, although he has put pen to paper on an extension that ties him to his boyhood club until 2023.

Swansea also have the option to extend the 20-year-old's contract by an additional 12 months.

“I’m a local boy – I’ve been here since I was eight and I’m turning 21 in April, so this is great news for me,” he told the Swansea website.

“Every minute I play for my club means so much to me. I love the club.

“I couldn’t wait to get the deal signed when it came through. It gives me more time to develop and push on. Adding more first-team games is my aim.

“When I signed my last deal, I was in and around the squad and was on the bench a few times. My goal was to get onto the pitch and earn another deal, which I’ve done.”

Williams made his first team bow in the 3-0 Carabao Cup win over Reading in August and also featured in the 4-1 triumph over Plymouth Argyle in the same competition.
