Swansea City headlines as director thanks Trust over new agreement and Martin delivers verdict on loan players

Your Swansea City headlines for Tuesday, February 15.

Silverstein addresses Trust agreement

Jake Silverstein has thanked Supporters’ Trust Chair Dave Dalton after an agreement was reached for legal action not to be taken over the sale of Swansea City in 2016.

A club statement confirmed the Trust have reached a settlement with the Swans' former shareholders to ensure court action will not take place.

The legal threat arose after the Trust - who own a 21.1% stake in the club - stated they were excluded from negotiations of the sale five-and-a-half years ago.

Silverstein - who was appointed to the club's board of directors after inputting a loan - admits he was pleased an agreement could be reached following several months of talks.

“This is the product of months of hard work spent in constructive and detailed conversations between ownership and the Supporters’ Trust and the former majority owners to find our best path forward for all parties, and in particular the football club,” said Silverstein.

“This resolution has come about through a strong desire to figure out how we can ensure a long-term alignment of interests between all stakeholders and to establish a strong foundation from which to continue building a sustainable club that succeeds both on and off the pitch.

“We’d like to thank the Supporters’ Trust, and in particular Trust Chair Dave Dalton for his tireless work in achieving this. I sincerely believe that we can move forward, work together and strive for success because at the core we all want the same things for Swansea City.”

Christie's attacking hope

Cyrus Christie believes he was always destined to add end product to his game at Swansea City after regularly getting into promising positions during the early stages of his loan stint with the club.

The Republic of Ireland international registered his first assist for Swansea by setting up Michael Obafemi to score the equaliser in Sunday's 3-1 triumph over Bristol City.

He then put the hosts ahead at the Swansea.com Stadium with what was his first goal for Russell Martin's side as part of what was a fine comeback victory.

And after such a lacklustre performance in the 3-0 loss to Stoke City last week, Christie could not hide his delight after the Swans put in a fine second-half showing against Bristol City to earn their 10th league triumph of the season.

“It was really good for us to get the win, and great to get on the score sheet and get an assist too,” said Christie.

“I’ve felt like that’s been coming, I have had a few opportunities that have been close but not gone in.

“It was a long time ago, thanks for bringing that up! But I have enjoyed the chance to get forward and get into the box. I probably should have scored with the first attempt really.

“The main thing was the three points, though. After Stoke where we had a bit of a horror show and none of us were at the races, it showed out mentality and character to bounce back even after going a goal down.

“We pinned them back second half and made the most of the chances. The main thing for us now is to try and put things together on a more consistent basis.”

Loan verdicts delivered

Russell Martin admits he's been pleased with the impact of the players Swansea have loaned out this season.

Morgan Whittaker has netted twice in eight appearances for Lincoln City while Liam Cullen bagged his first goal for The Imps on Saturday.

Elsewhere, Jordon Garrick and Ollie Cooper have been a key figures for Plymouth Argyle and Newport County respectively this term while Brandon Cooper has enjoyed a positive start at Swindon Town.

"They're all doing well. That's the whole point, it's to see what they can do at that level and see if they can come back here and then do what we want them to do," explained Martin.

"If we've got guys who are struggling to get into teams in League One or League Two then it's highly unlikely they'll be ready for us at the start of next season, and we then have to assess what the next best step is for them.

"They'll come back for pre-season, we'll see what new players we have in the building, see where we are and which ones can really have an impact for us. People often come back from a loan period very different so we'll wait and see."

Martin added: "Brandon's done really well. Morgs has scored a couple of goals which will hopefully do him good.

"I think he's still getting up to speed. He can have even more impact than he's having at the minute, but he's scoring goals which is nice.

"Culls didn't get on for long but I watched his previous game against MK Dons. He worked really hard. Hopefully he'll get goals to get him going.

"Jordon's doing really well, albeit not starting every week and having an impact, but playing in a couple of different positions I think will be good for him.

"Ollie Cooper continues to be impressive. He didn't start the other night [at Northampton Town], maybe it's down to fatigue because he's played so much."

Martin's tribute to players

Russell Martin paid tribute to his players after they responded to last week's loss to Stoke City by earning victory over Bristol City.

The Swans turned in a woeful display against the Potters, losing 3-0 at the bet365 Stadium.

But they came from behind to win 3-1 in their most recent fixture against the Robins to clinch their second consecutive victory on home soil.

Writing on his official Instagram account, Martin said: "Great finish to a tough week. Proud of the players.

"So much courage. Big win and reaction after Tuesday’s disappointment. YJB!"

Swansea return to action against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane on Saturday. Kick-off is at 3pm.
