Swansea City headlines as Cooper reveals the Premier League striker he 'really wanted' to sign while at Swans and Pato has message for fans

These are your Swansea City headlines on Sunday, March 13.

Cooper reveals star he wanted while at club

Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper has revealed he wanted to sign Keinan Davis while he was at Swansea.

Davis is now with Cooper at the City Ground, having penned a loan deal from Premier League outfit Aston Villa.

He netted a brace for the Reds in Saturday's 4-0 win over Reading to push the club to the brink of the play-offs.

Cooper has been delighted with the young striker's form and admitted he wanted him while manager at the Swansea.com Stadium.

“Keinan has got a lot of potential," he said.

"I think this loan is going to be an important one for his career, because he’s playing games, he’s playing at a massive club, he’s wearing the No.9 and there’s a bit of expectation on him.

“He’s a really good guy and has settled in.

“He’s really into his learning. He likes the individual stuff. After training, he’s interested in his development.

“We’re really enjoying seeing him thriving in the moment. But, like all of these young lads, it’s about what’s next.

“I really wanted to sign him at Swansea, so when there was a chance to do it here, we didn’t hesitate. It’s great to have him here.

“Sometimes you see the powerful player around the box who can make things happen, but he’s also a really good technical player. He’s difficult to play against, too. He’s a combative player. He’s a good footballer.

“If he can keep playing like that, he’s going to do all right.”

Downes: We must stick together

Flynn Downes says he and his team-mates must stick together after another disappointing result on the road.

Swansea went down 1-0 to Blackpool at the weekend, conceding early on at Bloomfield Road.

Despite the lion's share of possession once again, Swansea left Lancashire with nothing to show for it.

Downes, though, has uged Swansea to roll up their sleeves and go again against Peterborough on Wednesday.

“It’s disappointing, without doubt, we’ve allowed the game to play into their hands with that early goal," said Downes.

“It’s the basics, we cannot concede early doors because we know what they are about.

“We had a lot of the ball and we had chances, but the early goal has killed us.

“But we have to stick together, big time.

“We have had this before and responded with better results and performances. We did it after Sheffield United.

“The lads are together. We know what we want to do, we have to stick at it and go again on Wednesday.”

Pato's message to fans

Jamie Paterson has thanked the 2,000 supporters who made the long journey to Blackpool on Saturday.

It was a fantastic turnout from the Jack Army, and although they didn't have a win to celebrate, a good day out was certainly had.

The attacker also congratulated Nathanael Ogbeta and Cameron Congreve on their first-team debuts for the club.

Pato wrote on Instagram: "Thanks to the travelling support! Unreal turnout. Congratulations @camcongreve10 @nathanaelogbeta on your debuts. #YJB #curtains @swansofficial."

On the two debutants, Martin added: “They both deserved the opportunity, we are not doing it for the sake of it.

“Nat was brought in to give us something different and he has had to be patient because he got injured, so I am really pleased for him that he is out there, he is loving it and living it.

“He will be a work in progress after his injury and it will take some time.

“Cameron has been outstanding for the under-23s, which is what made us really interested in seeing how he would be in the first team set-up.

“He has come along and he has shown no trepidation, he has been himself and he has shown a lot of technical ability.

“He is very young, he has a lot to work on but he has unbelievable quality around the box with both feet, and with how deep they were defending I thought he might be able to do something, and with his first action he nearly did.

“I am pleased for both of them, and with the remit we have and the finances available we will be about young players learning and developing working with some of the older guys like Kyle Naughton, Matt Grimes and Cyrus Christie.

“We have to be brave enough when the time is right, we felt the time was right and I am pleased for them, even though we are really disappointed with the result.”
