Swansea City headlines as Connor Roberts hits back at Gareth Bale and Grimes leads the party after derby win

Here's your round-up of all the latest Swansea City headlines for Sunday, April 3

Roberts has last laugh over Bale

Ex-Swans star Connor Roberts has seemingly hit back at Gareth Bale following the Real Madrid star's recent derby day banter this week.

Cardiff City boss Steve Morison had previously revealed that he'd been speaking to Bale in the run-up to Saturday's clash, adding that the Wales skipper was keen for a Bluebirds win so that he could 'hammer' Connor Roberts. Bale revealed his allegiance to his hometown club while on loan at Tottenham, where he enjoyed some banter with former Swan Joe Rodon.

But with Swansea cruising to a convincing 4-0 win, it's Roberts who has taken the bragging rights. After their win, the Swansea Twitter account even posted "That was for you @ConnorRobs ".

Roberts then replied: "Never in doubt. Heroes every single one of you they’ll never sing that," an apparent reference to Swansea's taunt over becoming the first team to complete South Wales Derby double.

Grimes leads derby day celebrations

Swansea captain Matt Grimes says he and his team-mates will never forget their historic South Wales derby win.

Grimes, along with the rest of the Swansea players and backroom staff, were jubilant in their celebrations with a euphoric away end at full-time, and the skipper says becoming the first side to complete a derby double is an achievement none of them will forget. “It feels incredible, incredible," he said. "There aren’t many words that can describe it to be honest.

“For the fans, for the people of Swansea, you can see how much it means to them and to do it in the way we did was exceptional. I alluded to it this week, it’s hard to do the double over any team in a season so to do it over your fiercest rivals is even tougher.

“With the fixture being what it is, it’s an incredible achievement; I’m so proud of the lads, the staff, everyone. It’s such a proud day. It’s a great step in the right direction today and we’ll all remember this season.” Grimes was also seen leading the celebrations with fans in a video that emerged on social media, much to the delight of the Jack Army.

Rowett wary of Swans threat

Millwall boss Gary Rowett admits his side could face a tougher test against Swansea on Tuesday night, following the Swans' derby day heroics.

Swansea head to the Den to take on a Lions side that hasn't lost any of their last seven outings at home, but will no doubt be full of confidence after so ruthlessly hammering their most bitter of rivals at the weekend. And, speaking after his team's 2-2 draw with Luton Town, Rowett says he's expecting a tough test.

"Swansea are a good side, they move the ball," he said. I haven’t seen the game but they beat Cardiff 4-0 away from home. I’m sure that’ll give them a little bit of confidence because their away form hasn’t been brilliant. They’re the sort of side that if they get it moving and start to click they’re a very difficult side to win the ball back off.

“But we have to find a solution and we have to try to win the game. We’ve got two big home games. It’s up to us, isn’t it? It’s up to us to try and go and win the games.

“We’ll certainly work hard and enjoy the opportunity. It’s an exciting time. We’re in as good a position as I think the club’s been in the Championship at this stage of the season.

“Let’s see if we can take the next step and win the next game to take us into the one afterwards."
