Swansea City drop big hint over Wayne Routledge's future as talks take place

Wayne Routledge looks set to stay with Swansea City after chairman Trevor Birch revealed positive conversations had been held with the 34-year-old.

The winger is out of contract this summer, but is eager to stay with the club - having waived a clause in his contract that would have triggered another year automatically to help the club financially.

And now Swans chief Birch has revealed that there may be good news "very soon" on a new deal for Routledge.

In a statement covering the search for a new manager and a recruitment shake up , Birch touched upon Routledge's future.

"On a more positive note I met with Wayne Routledge yesterday and had a very good conversation with him about re-signing for the forthcoming season," he said.

"He’s an extremely articulate and intelligent man and has a great future ahead of him after he’s finished playing.

"But I am extremely hopeful that we can retain him for a further year as a player first as his experience and maturity will be of great benefit in the dressing room with the younger players going forward.

"Hopefully we will have some good news on Wayne’s future very soon."
