Swansea City defender Brandon Cooper to join Newport County on loan

Swansea City defender Brandon Cooper is set to join Newport County on loan for the duration of the 2020/21 season.

The centre-back made his first team debut for Swansea in a 1-0 Carabao Cup loss to Crystal Palace at the Liberty Stadium under Graham Potter in August 2018.

He also featured in the FA Cup under Steve Cooper last term before being sent out on loan to Yeovil Town.

The academy product was restricted to just three appearances with the Glovers due to the coronavirus pandemic.

But he is now expected to get regular action in the Football league at Rodney Parade.

It's understood Cooper has completed a medical with Michael Flynn's side ahead of their League Two opener at Scunthorpe on Saturday.

Cooper - who featured for Wales' Under-21 side against Bosnia & Herzegovina during the international break - signed a new one-year deal with Swansea earlier this year to ensure he is contracted to his boyhood club until the summer of 2021.
