Swansea City dealt potential transfer blow as Turkish press point to Andre Ayew return

Swansea City's hopes of offloading Andre Ayew this summer look to have been deal a set back, with Turkish giants Fenerbahce reportedly turning down the opportunity to seal a permanent deal.

According to Turkish outlet Aksam , the Istanbul side have decided not take up an option in the Ghanaian's loan deal to seal a permanent transfer this summer, amid some poor recent showings.

Ayew has scored just five goals in 36 appearances for Fenerbahce, who currently sit 12th in the Turkish Super Lig.

There had been initial suggestions that the club's hierarchy were keen on securing a permanent deal at the end of the season , but these latest reports suggest they have now changed their mind.

'Disastrous' Swansea City star booed off pitch as situation sums up club's troubling predicament

A stay in Istanbul was looking increasingly unlikely anyway given the 29-year old's slump in form, but the news will nevertheless come as a blow to the Swans, who are desperate to get the likes of Ayew, his brother Jordan, and Borja Baston off the books in this window in order to steady their finances.

The Swans purchased Ayew for £18million during the January of their final season in the Premier League, and now look highly unlikely to recoup that fee in the summer, despite him having another two years left on his current deal at SA1.

What's been happening with Swansea City's players out on loan and Trevor Birch's difficult task laid bare

The club has made little secret on the devastating financial impact of relegation, and it remains to be just how much boss Graham Potter will have available this summer, but his transfer kitty will surely rely on ensuring certain players are out the door.

There has also been a suggestion that keeping in-demand winger Daniel James could well hinge on player sales, with the youngster expected to demand increased terms on his current deal.
