Swansea City expect to trigger the extension clause in Jamie Paterson's contract before the new year.
The attacker joined the club on a 12-month deal in the summer after being released by Championship rivals Bristol City in May.
Paterson has been a revelation under Russell Martin, scoring eight league goals while also registering four assists.
The Swans have long been confident of extending Paterson's stay in south Wales, with sporting director Mark Allen recently admitting that they are eager to keep him at the club.
And once Paterson makes his 25th appearance for Swansea, the club will be able to extend the 29-year-old's deal by a further 12 months at the very least.
If he continues to feature in every league fixture, he will reach the trigger point in the home match against Luton Town on December 29.
Swansea could yet give Paterson a longer deal, such has been the impact he has made since joining the club in August.
The player is understood to be determined to stay with the Swans after impressing under the current regime.
