Swansea City confirm fifth summer signing as Wolves youngster Luke Cundle arrives on loan

Swansea City have completed a loan deal for Wolverhampton Wanderers youngster Luke Cundle.

Russell Martin has been determined to add to his squad this summer, having already completed deals for Joe Allen, Harry Darling, Nathan Wood, and Matthew Sorinola.

Cundle, who will stay in SA1 for the rest of the season, has now been confirmed as the club's fifth signing of the summer, and will come as a welcome boost to Martin's stock of midfielders, with Flynn Downes leaving for West Ham United and Liam Walsh set to miss a majority of the season with a ruptured Achilles.

The 20-year-old is a highly-rated prospect at Molineux, having been named as the club's academy player of the season last term. He also made six senior appearances under boss Bruno Lage last year.

And he's clearly itching to get going at the Swansea.com Stadium.

“I am really excited to get down to work on Tuesday. I just want to play football,” he told the club's official website.

“One of the big things for me (when deciding where to join) was the facilities. The moment you walk through the door here you can see the facilities are as good as those at any Premier League club.

“That in itself would have been enough of a reason, but when I spoke to the head coach, I felt he was someone who would put his belief in me.

“I feel like I can contribute. I can play a number of roles, I can play box-to-box, I can create and score goals.

“I can also receive the ball from the back and start the build-up.”

Cundle will take the number 18 shirt, and can play across the midfield as well as in behind the strikers.

He joins ahead of Swansea's trip to Stoke City on Wednesday night.
