Former Bristol City midfielder Liam Walsh has joined Championship rivals Swansea City, just over a week after departing Ashton Gate following the expiry of his contract.
Walsh has a signed a three-year contract at the Liberty Stadium becoming the second ex-City midfielder to tread the same path as a free agent, with club legend Korey Smith joining the Swans 12 months ago.
The 23-year-old was one of 10 first-team players released last month as City manager Nigel Pearson made sweeping changes to the squad amid financial considerations and a desire for a restructuring and reset.
Walsh signed for City from Everton in 2018 but after a bright start under Lee Johnson injured knee ligaments and from that moment on his progress was curtailed due to bad luck, timing and, ultimately, further injury problems.
After an outstanding season on loan at Coventry City in 2019/20 there was considerable excitement surrounding his return to BS3 but Walsh suffered further injuries and played just 124 minutes last term, with one Championship start.
Steve Cooper's interest in Walsh first became known last summer when he was on a list of targets but City's decision to activate a 12-month clause in his contract meant that any move was impossible, until now.
Walsh's No8 shirt at Bristol City has now been taken by former Everton academy teammate, close friend and fellow midfielder Joe Williams.
Pearson revealed on Wednesday that Williams is still struggling with injury problems and is yet to join the squad for pre-season but is confident he'll be fit for the start of the Championship season.
