Swansea City have completed the signing of the Atlético Madrid striker Borja Bastón for a club record fee of £15.5m, subject to international clearance.

The 23-year-old will replace the Ghana international André Ayew, who joined West Ham United for £20.5m on Monday. Swansea’s previous record outlay was £12m for Wilfried Bony from Vitesse Arnhem in 2013.

Borja, who was born in Madrid, is a product of the Atlético academy but has spent the past five seasons out on loan. The Spaniard scored 18 La Liga goals on loan at Eibar and 22 goals at Real Zaragoza the previous year.

The striker, who has been capped for Spain up to under-19s level, could be available for the club’s Premier League opener at Burnley on Saturday. His signing follows deals for Fernando Llorente, Leroy Fer, Mike van der Hoorn and Mark Birighitti.
