Swansea City, Brighton, Sheffield United and Norwich tipped to move for Scottish star once compared to Barcelona's Lionel Messi

Swansea City are one of several clubs said to be interested in Farense midfielder Ryan Gauld.

According to Team Talk, the Swans are joined by Brighton and Hove Albion, Brentford, Sheffield United, Norwich City and Blackburn Rovers in taking an interest in the Scottish star, who was once heralded as one of the most promising talents in world football.

David Beckham's MLS side Inter Miami are also believed to be keen, while former Swans boss Carlos Carvalhal has also been a credited as an admirer, with his current side Braga being linked with a move back in January.

Swansea's transfer plans are, as things stand, not yet finalised, with most of the focus in SA1 understandably centring around the upcoming play-off campaign.

Promotion to the Premier League could well have a big impact on what sort of players they go for, although Gauld does tick a lot of boxes in terms of Swansea's transfer policy.

Gauld is set to be a free agent this summer, which would suit a Swans side unlikely to splash the cash, particularly if they're still playing in the Championship next season.

A playmaker or number 10 is also one of the roles the Swans may well look to fill in this window, and the 25-year-old is believed to be keen on testing himself in English football.

Gauld was once dubbed a "Mini Messi" as a teenager, after breaking into the Dundee United first-team at just 16 years of age in 2012.

His rise earned a big move from Dundee United to Sporting Lisbon back in 2014, but he failed to make his mark with the Portuguese giants, moving to second tier side Farense five years later.

A stunning debut season, where he scored nine goals and earned three assists, helped Farense win promotion to the top tier.
