Swansea City boss Steve Cooper delivers emphatic message to Joe Rodon's critics and comments on promotion chances

Swansea City boss Steve Cooper believes young centre-back Joe Rodon has silenced his recent critics.

Rodon was named by Ryan Giggs in the latest Wales squad for the crucial upcoming Euro 2020 qualifier with Azerbaijan, and has been tipped to shine on the international stage.

However, the player was on the receiving end of fierce criticism on social media following the recent win over Preston North End, causing him to delete his Twitter account.

His response was to put in a man-of-the-match display in the at Loftus Road, and Cooper believes there can no be no doubting his dedication to the cause.

"They can't [criticise him] from any game. Joe's had an outstanding start to the season. He's a young player. Swansea through and through. He's taking responsibility on the pitch," he said.

"He, along with the rest of the back four are doing really, really well.

"There's certainly no criticism from inside the football club because you can't be."

Swansea are currently joint-top of the Championship following Wednesday's win, with many fans now understandably starting to believe that this season could be the start of something special.

A promotion challenge would be a massive achievement for Cooper's side, but the man himself is refusing to get carried away.

"We're taking it one game at a time," he added.

"I know that's the boring answer but that's what we've done so far. We believe in the work. We believe in the methodology and creating a culture where the players are enjoying training and believing in the plan.

"It's now just about recovering and preparing for the next game. We won't look any further than that because the moment we do is the moment we're not thinking about the game."
