Swansea City boss explains why he wanted to bring in Bristol City's Kasey Palmer

It was the last deal of the transfer window but attacking midfielder Kasey Palmer made a deadline day switch to South Wales.

The loan should give him more game time as the mercurial playmaker looks for more first-team starts and to kick on and find the consistency in his game that could elevate him to become one of the talents in the Championship.

The 23-year-old came off the bench to make his debut for the Swans on Saturday with the score at 1-1, however it was Huddersfield Town who went on to win the game, with Josh Koroma netting in the 67th minute to seal a 1-2 victory for the visitors to the Liberty Stadium.

Following the game Swansea City boss Steve Cooper was asked about the Bristol City loanee.

The Robins will hope that Palmer can show his best form at their Championship rivals, with a January recall option giving them a useful tool for the next transfer window.

"We've brought a good player in with Kasey," said Cooper after his side's defeat.

"We want to give him the opportunity to resurrect his career a little bit.

"He's a player that I know well and he has a lot of potential. Hopefully we can give him a platform to help us."

Cooper has been a long-term fan of the former Chelsea man and the Swans were in the mix for Palmer's signature in the summer of 2019 before the Robins closed a deal for the former Blackburn Rovers and Huddersfield Town man.

And only Ben Cabango made more successful tackles in the game against the Terriers than the new Swansea City recruit in his first game.

For the Robins, it will be an interesting watch: could Palmer revive his City career like Jamie Paterson did a year ago? Or will it be a case of an asset maintaining, decreasing or increasing in value? Time will tell.

Meanwhile fellow loanee Saikou Janneh netted his first goal for Newport County at the weekend against Tranmere Rovers in League Two.
