Swansea City boss addresses deadline day approach for Leeds United youngster Sam Greenwood

Swansea City boss Steve Cooper has admitted he doesn't know if his side enquired about Leeds United youngster Sam Greenwood.

The Whites' striker, who joined the club from Arsenal in the summer window, was linked with a loan move away from Elland Road during January, with several Championship clubs registering an interest.

Cardiff City were said to be monitoring Greenwood's situation but it was their Welsh rivals, Swansea, who approached Leeds on deadline day about a move.

Cooper's reputation for developing young players also fits with their interest in Greenwood, having loaned in the likes of Rhian Brewster, Marc Guehi and Freddie Woodman in the last year.

Leeds rebuffed the Swans' advance, with past dealings between the club over Daniel James' collapsed transfer still fresh in the mind of some supporters.

Despite Cooper stating prior to the final of the window that he wanted cover for strikers Jamal Low and Andre Ayew, the Swansea boss refused to be drawn on Greenwood's name specifically when quizzed about a potential deal on Thursday.

When asked about interest in Greenwood, Cooper responded: "I don’t know.

"We were in for quite a number of players over the last few months, some that were kept lukewarm and some you turned down straight away.

"There’s a long list of players we enquired about."

Greenwood has impressed Leeds' coaches with his development, having played both as a striker and an advanced number eight at times.

The 19-year-old has netted eight times in the Premier League 2 Division 2 and Leeds felt it was better that he remained at Thorp Arch to continue his development, rather than being thrust into his first taste of first-team football.

Greenwood made his professional debut for Leeds against Crawley Town at the start of January as a substitute and will continue to be a prominent figure for the Under-23s whilst training in and around the first team.
