Swansea City agree deal for Wigan Athletic's highly rated Kyle Joseph in blow to Celtic, Rangers and Sheffield United

Kyle Joseph is set to become Swansea City's first signing of the summer transfer window.

WalesOnline revealed earlier this month that the Swans were interested in a move for the Wigan Athletic man.

The striker's contract with the Latics expires this summer, although he was offered fresh terms by the DW Stadium outfit.

However, he has attracted plenty of interest from the likes of Rangers, Celtic, Sheffield United and Preston North End.

But Joseph is now destined to move to south Wales on a free transfer having agreed terms on a four-year contract with Swansea.

Steve Cooper's side will have to pay Wigan a compensation fee given that Joseph is only 19 years of age.

The deal is expected to be officially ratified later this month.

Swansea remain keen to add a more game ready number nine to their ranks this summer - with Joseph expected to be given time to develop his game further at the Liberty Stadium.

The Scottish frontman scored five goals in 20 appearances in all competitions for Wigan last term.

Swansea also remained interested in OH Leuven forward Thomas Henry and former Bristol City midfielder Liam Walsh.

It comes after players including Andre Ayew were released ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.
