Swansea children's hospital ward urgently appeals for fans to keep sick kids cool in the heatwave

Children’s ward staff at Morriston Hospital in Swansea are appealing for help to keep their young patients comfortable during the heatwave.

Swansea Bay University Health Board said there were fans on Ward M but "nowhere near enough" in these exceptional conditions.

On Monday, the Met Office issued a four-day amber weather warning for extreme heat in Wales.

The warning states high temperatures are expected both by day and night, peaking Thursday before temperatures fall on Friday.

Jane Phillips, the hospital's interim head of nursing for children and young people, said: “We have tried getting more (fans) but they are out of stock everywhere we have looked. If anyone has any new fans they can donate, loan or sell to us we would be extremely grateful.

“We have some fans on the ward, and parents have brought in hand fans, but it’s not enough to keep the children comfortable.”

If you can help, please call Ward M on 01792 618891.
