Swansea boss Steve Cooper addresses Crystal Palace rumours amid Roy Hodgson uncertainty

Steve Cooper insists that his sole focus at the moment is on Swansea City amid links to replacing Roy Hodgson at Crystal Palace.

Cooper has guided Swansea to third in the Championship this season, and could go top if they win their two games in hand on Brentford and Norwich.

Palace, meanwhile, have stagnated after a strong showing at the start of the season, and now sit 14th in the table.

Cooper was asked in his pre-match press conference ahead of Swansea's game against Nottingham Forest about the links to Palace, and whether he was flattered by them, but the Swans' boss knocked back the question.

"All of that’s irrelevant," he told reporters. "Not even worth talking about.

"We’re in this mad schedule and the only thing I’m focused on is the team and preparing for the next game. No sideshows and certainly nothing to talk about.

"We stick together and carry on with our work. Boys regrouped after the called-off game. No one was asking for time off.

"We know we had to get that extra work done on the weekend. We’re focused on what’s in front of us, and I’m no different."

Reports over the weekend suggested that Cooper has been added to a shortlist of potential candidates to replace Hodgson at the end of the season should the club - or the manager - decide to call time on his four-year spell as Palace manager.

Hodgson's side are still 11 points clear of the drop zone, but two wins in their last seven games and some disappointing performances has meant plenty of fan disquiet, despite their absence from Selhurst Park.

Hodgson's deal at Selhurst Park is due to expire at the end of the season, and though he says he is extremely happy to stay on, no new contract has yet been offered by the club.

With almost half of the current first team squad also out of contract at the end of the season, there is plenty for chairman Steve Parish and sporting director Dougie Freedman to do over the next three months, and whether Hodgson is offered another year will be near the top of that list.
