Swansea Bay 10K postponed due to coronavirus

This year's Admiral Swansea Bay 10K has been postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The annual event attracts thousands of runners to the city with its scenic route along the seafront.

Around 5,000 people were expected to take part in this year's race on Sunday, September 20, marking the event's 40th event.

It has now been postponed until Sunday, September 19, 2021, because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Those who have booked places for this summer's 10K will automatically be guaranteed places for next year's celebratory event.

Robert Francis-Davies, Swansea Council 's cabinet member for investment, regeneration and tourism, said: "We know that runners and supporters will be disappointed - we are too, but we know they'll also fully understand that it's the right decision in light of the current situation.

"The most important course of action now is to do all we can to ensure participants and the public are as safe as possible and reduce the pressure on our emergency services."

He added: "Our award winning, annual Swansea Bay 10K is extremely popular. 2021 will now be the 40 anniversary of the race and we'll be making sure that next year's event will be a celebratory one."

The event, which will have been sponsored by Admiral for 15 consecutive years next year, includes the 10K race, 1K and 3K junior fun runs and a 10K wheelchair race.
