Swansea bar closes immediately due to 'fear culture' from Government over Covid

A bar has blamed "fear culture generated by the government" for its decision to close immediately.

SteinHaus, the Original Bavarian Bier Hall, which is located within unit nineteen along Little Wind Street in Swansea city centre, has released a statement explaining how they made the decision to close its doors due to the level of restrictions imposed on the business, explaining the move came with "a heavy heart."

A statement read: "Sadly with a heavy heart we have had to decide to close immediately due to the level of government restriction placed on us and the fear culture generated by the UK Government.

"We'd like to thank our team for their commitment and dedication which has kept us going this long. We thank our loyal customers for your support and we will announce in due course when Swansea is allowed to party again."

Being introduced from Boxing Day at 6am, the Welsh Government has announced regulations that bring back tighter measures for hospitality businesses, including licensed premises.

A general requirement of 2m social distancing must be in place in all premises open to the public and workplaces, where reasonable, and the rule of six will apply to gatherings in regulated premises.

Under the new rules, all licensed premises will need to take additional measures to protect customers and staff, including table service and collecting contact details. Face coverings will be required in hospitality settings at all times apart from when seated.

First Minister Mark Drakeford announced £120 million will be available for nightclubs, retail, hospitality, leisure and tourism businesses affected by the move to alert level 2 – double the new £60 million package announced last week.
