Swans die after being 'attacked by dog' at Wigan beauty spot

Police have launched an investigation following the death of two swans at a popular beauty spot.

The birds are believed to have been killed after being attacked by a dog at Scotman’s Flash, Wigan.

Officers were called to initial reports they had been shot, on February 12.

It is now believed a canine attacked the animals at around 5pm the previous day.

GMP are now appealing to anyone who saw a man and a woman in the area at that time.

The pair had a white and tan coloured husky dog.

Officers say it could possibly be called “Sandy”.

A spokesman for GMP Wigan West said: “Police were called at around 10.40am on Friday, February 12, to a report of two swans appeared to have been shot at Scotsman’s Flash, Wigan.

“Further enquiries have since suggested the swans were attacked by a white and tan coloured husky dog at around 5pm the previous day.

“Police are looking for any information in relation to a male and female seen in the area at the time with a dog described as a ‘white and tan coloured Husky’ possibly named ‘Sandy’.”

Anyone with information is asked to call 0161 856 7142 quoting incident 838 of 12/02/2021. Details can be passed to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
