Dublin Fire Brigade came to the aid of a distressed swan after they became trapped in a lock of the Royal Canal.
The swan, nicknamed 'Swanny' by the crew, was rescued by firefighters from Phibsborough fire station.

Swans are unable to fly to safety when they are stuck within the confines of a lock, and as a result can become stressed.
The firefighters reckon that after they were rescued, 'Swanny' threw them a wave to say thanks for the help.
Dublin Fire Brigade said: "Earlier today, Firefighters from Phibsborough Fire Station came to the rescue of a swan who became trapped in a lock of the Royal Canal.

"Swans cannot take off in the confines of a lock and can become distressed. ‘Swanny’ waved at the crew as he carried on his (or her) way."
