Swan Leisure to revamp Crumlin Swimming Pool under new ownership

Swan Leisure are taking over the facilities at Crumlin Swimming Pool - and it will be revamped in the coming weeks.

The company currently boasts a gym and swimming pool in Rathmines, which was opened by Dublin City Council in 2010. The new owners also confirmed the cost of attending the Crumlin location would be the same as what is on offer in Rathmines.

“Swan Leisure at Crumlin is a 25 metre pool with 5 lanes and will be open 7 days a week with public access every day. The pool will be closed for some minor refurbishments for the next 4-6 weeks while we prepare the facility to welcome you all,” the gym confirmed in a Facebook post.

Visitors can soak up amenities such as triathlon coaching, family swims and aqua aerobics at the new Swan Leisure branch. Additionally, Swan Leisure is partnering with leading autism charity AsIAm to ensure the pool is accessible for those who have additional needs.

An autism swimming hour will be scheduled every week in Crumlin to ensure everyone can access the pool facilities in a comfortable manner. Swan Leisure in Rathmines is already an accredited autism friendly facility and it is hoped that the new Crumlin location will also deliver in this regard.

The news was welcomed by local residents, with several people praising the gym’s inclusive policy. The pool in Rathmines already has changing facilities in place specifically for disabled swimmers, resulting in some users enquiring whether the same accommodations would be available in Crumlin.

Crumlin Swimming Pool previously faced closure in 2009 but the decision to shut down the popular swimming spot was reversed after fierce opposition from locals. The pool has been accessible seven days a week since the start of this summer. The public were always given weekend use of the facilities but swimming clubs were only previously authorised to use the pool on weekdays.
