Swalwell on Flynn: 'Innocent people don't seek immunity'

WASHINGTON _ Rep. Eric Swalwell says he wants to hear from former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn about possible Russian meddling in U.S. elections, but not if there are conditions attached.

"Generally, innocent people don't seek immunity," Swalwell said in an interview with CNN Thursday night.

The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday that Flynn told FBI and congressional officials that he would testify in investigations regarding President Donald Trump's campaign's interactions with Russia in exchange for immunity.

Flynn resigned as national security adviser after it was revealed he lied about his communications with Russian Ambassador to the U.S. Sergey Kislyak.

"No reasonable person, who has the benefit of advice from counsel, would submit to questioning in such a highly politicized, witch-hunt environment without assurances against unfair prosecution," Robert Keiner, Flynn's lawyer, said in a statement.

Swalwell, a member of the House Intelligence Committee, he wants Flynn's testimony to be out in the open.

"I think we should hear from him in the public and that we should get to the bottom of just exactly why was he working with Russia Today," Swalwell told CNN.

"As a former Defense Intelligence Agency director, he of all people knows that agency is connected to Russia's intelligence services and so to take money from them and to work with Russian ambassador after sanctions were put on Russia and to lie to the vice president, that's powerful evidence that he knew what was going on and this was converging at the time of Russia's interference campaign."
