Sven-Goran Eriksson makes Arsenal and Manchester City Premier League title prediction

Former England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson believes Arsenal can win the Premier League this season, but has backed Manchester City as favourites.

Mikel Areta's side occupy first place after winning nine of their opening 10 league games. Sunday's 1-0 victory at Leeds United and City's defeat at Liverpool put the Gunners four points ahead of City. The two sides were scheduled to meet this evening at the Emirates Stadium, but Arsenal's Europa League group stage clash with PSV was rescheduled for tomorrow (Thursday) following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

Arsenal's performances this season has provided food for thought for figures within the footballing world, with many discussing the genuine prospect of them challenging the Citizens for the Premier League title at the end of the season. Now, Eriksson has insisted that Arteta and his side are capable of winning their first league title since 2004, but has backed his former club to lift the trophy for a fifth time in six years.

"I think Arsenal can win the league. But if you look at the squad, Manchester City are outstanding, they can change almost 11 players and you don’t notice it," the former Manchester City manager told Metro. "For me, the big favourites are still City. There are many games to play, but congratulations to Arsenal and Arteta, it’s been a very long time since they won the Premier League.

"It’s good to see, a big and important club with a fantastic history. I think they will fight to win the league, but I still think City will do it."
