SUV stolen then used in spate of housebreakings across Tayside sparking major police probe

Tayside Police officers have appealed for information following a spate of housebreakings in the Dundee and Angus areas over the weekend.

Overnight between Friday, June 17, and Saturday, June 18, a grey Mitsubishi Shogun - reg SB05 YXA - was stolen from a property in the Lunan area of Angus.

Enquiries so far have established that it was then used in a series of break-ins and attempted break-ins that occurred in the early hours of Monday, 20 June.

The first incident occurred around 2.45am when there was an attempted break-in at a unit in West Pitkerro Industrial Estate, Dundee.

Around 3.25am there was an attempted break-in at a premises on Dundee Street in Carnoustie. Shortly after, at around 3.30am there was another attempted break-in at a premises on Station Road, Carnoustie, and around 3.50am officers received report of a theft by housebreaking at a premises on Ravensby Park Gardens, Carnoustie.

A further attempted break-in was reported at a premises on Ferry Road in Monifieth around 3.55am and officers received reports of a break-in at a premises on King Street in Broughty Ferry around 4.15am.

The Mitsubishi was also used in the theft of an off-road buggy from a farm in Newport-on-Tay that was traced a short time later in Dundee on Sunday, 19 June, 2022.

Sergeant Linsey Burnett, of Angus Community Investigation Unit, said: “I am appealing to anyone who was in the areas in the early hours of Monday morning who may have witnessed something.

“I am particularly keen to speak to anyone who saw the Mitsubishi Shogun described either before or after these incidents.

“Also, anyone with dash cam footage who was in the area around the time of the incidents is urged to contact police as you may have captured footage that could assist with our investigation.”

- Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland via 101, quoting incident 0910 of 18 June.
