SUV rams barricade at Attari check post

ATTARI: In a stark reminder of a 2015 incident, involving an NRI almost driving into Pakistan in his Scorpio after breaching BSF barriers at zero line, a man crashed his speeding Toyota Innova into barricades outside the Attari Integrated Check Post (ICP) in the wee hours of Thursday.

The man, identified as Inderjit Singh from Amritsar, managed to cross the first row of barricades but was apprehended when his vehicle got stuck in the second row. Protocol officer, ICP, Arun Pal said only one person was found inside the vehicle and was taken into custody by the BSF personnel.

Sources said, “The driver was not under the influence of liquor, but he had definitely taken some intoxicant, which will be revealed after investigations. It is not clear why he was heading towards the border.”

In November 2015, Canadian national Surinder Singh Kang had not only managed to break through the customs gate, but also a couple of BSF barriers in his high-speed vehicle before coming to a halt at zero line after hitting the Pakistani border gate.
