Sutton fire: Heartbroken resident tells of 'beautiful' children killed in house blaze

A heartbroken neighbour has told of the “beautiful" children who tragically died in a south London house fire on Thursday night.

The teenager has launched a fundraising appeal calling on the local community to pull together in the wake of the tragedy.

Around 60 firefighters tackled an “intense blaze” at a house on Collingwood Road, in Sutton, that began in the early evening, before bringing out four children, who were pronounced dead in hospital.

Residents watched in horror as emergency crews arrived at the scene.

The four young children were taken out of the house and given CPR by firefighters before being taken to two south London hospitals where they died.

The fire was under control by 8.36pm and the cause is under investigation.

Many people have taken to social media to express their sadness at what happened and one neighbour has decided to set up a gofundme page to help the family of the victims.

Jessica West, 17, wrote how she heard “lovely things” about the four youngsters that died and said they were known as “quads” as they “all looked the same.”

She now wants to raise £15,000 and there has been a quick response to her gofundme page.

She wrote: "Hi my name is Jessica. I am 17 years old and live next to where this awful event took place.

"I’ve only heard lovely things about them all. They where known as the ‘quads’ as they all looked the same .

"I’m so disheartened by this and I just want to help as much as I possibly can and I think I’m not the only one too ! Time for the Sutton community to come together and support this family."

All the children who died are believed to have been under five but their identities have not yet been confirmed.

One person took to Facebook writing: "Rip you beautiful babies. May you have the best bed in heaven, fly high."

Another wrote: "R.I.P my sincere Condolences to this poor family, sleep tight. Let’s all light a candle for these 4 little souls."

Similar messages included: "Absolutely devastating.. poor little angels."

The Metropolitan Police said no arrests have been made but road closures were in place.

The force said the children's next of kin are aware and will be provided with specialist support.
