SussexRoyal Twitter account disappears after Meghan Markle's fans demand owner gives it up

A Twitter account with a matching name to Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's new Instagram account has disappeared after fans demanded the current owner gives it up.

The parents-to-be delighted fans when they launched their own Instagram page on Tuesday as part of their split from the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

Within hours the couple had more than a million followers after sharing nine beautiful photos.

But fans quickly noticed that the matching SussexRoyal Twitter account had already been taken by a man called Kevin Keiley.

Before long they were asking that Kevin gave up his handle so the couple could use it if they wished.

One fan wrote: "That person with The Sussex Royal account needs to delete their Twitter or change their name so our Duke and Duchess could start their own page on here too. That account doesn't even tweet anything."

Another added: "Interestingly SussexRoyal on Twitter is owned by some guy named Kevin who hasn’t tweeted in years and says his account has been hacked. Wondering if the BRF will pay him for ownership of that handle."

One woman warned: "If you don’t want to lose this twitter handle to the duke and duchess, please post a tweet. Dormant accounts can be transfered by twitter to someone else."

The account, which was 10 years old and hadn't Tweeted since 2014, has since disappeared and fans are now believe it means Meghan and Harry might be joining Twitter very soon.

To celebrate the launch of their new page Meghan and Harry, who are expecting their first child this month, shared nine photos of their work.

They show the couple out and about meeting members of the public and representatives from charities they are passionate about.

The caption reads: "Welcome to our official Instagram; we look forward to sharing the work that drives us, the causes we support, important announcements, and the opportunity to shine a light on key issues.

"We thank you for your support, and welcome you to @sussexroyal.- Harry & Meghan"
