A "SUSPICIOUS" wheelie bin fire in a Scottish town has sparked a police investigation.

A wheelie bin was reportedly set alight at around 3.30am on Saturday in the O'Hare area of Alexandria, in West Dunbartonshire.

The fire then spread to an adjoining property, before it was extinguished by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.

Police confirmed there were no reports of any injuries.

Detectives are now appealing for information regarding the incident, which they say is being treated as wilful.

Detective Constable Martyn Cairns said: “Our enquiries into this deliberate fire are ongoing and I am appealing to anyone who was within the O’Hare area at the time of the incident to get in touch.

“I would also encourage residents in the area to check any private CCTV, doorbell or dash-cam footage, as it could assist our enquires.”

Anyone with information is urged to contact police on 101 quoting incident 0583 of May 23, or by calling Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service has been contacted for comment.
