Suspicious package sent to CNN's Atlanta office

Another suspicious package destined for CNN’s offices in Atlanta has been intercepted, according to the network.

An alarm was raised on Monday after the package was spotted at an Atlanta post office.

A statement from CNN’s president Jeff Zucker said: “There is no immediate danger to the CNN Center.

“All mail, at all CNN domestic bureaus, is being screened at off-site facilities as of last Wednesday, so this package would NOT have come directly to the CNN Center, even if it hadn’t been intercepted first.”

Last week, a man was arrested after 12 suspicious packages and bombs were sent to high profile liberal targets including Barack Obama and the Clintons.

CNN’s New York office had been targeted.

Cesar Sayoc, 56, from Aventura, Florida was arrested by federal authorities in connection with the spate of bombs and suspicious packages.

Following his arrest, president Donald Trump said: “These terrorising acts are despicable and terrorising acts have no place in our country.”

No one has been injured or killed by the wave of parcel bombs so far.

Investigators are analysing the devices to ascertain whether they were intended to actually detonate or simply sow fear two weeks before Election Day.

Republicans are seeking to maintain control of the US House of Representatives and Senate during the Nov. 6 elections.

If Democrats take the majority in either or both chambers, it would likely increase congressional oversight of Trump, a Republican, and thwart parts of his policy agenda.
