Reports of a 'suspicious package' led to a huge emergency response in Trafford.
Police, the fire service and the ambulance service were called to Old Trafford this afternoon.
A cordon was in place for around three hours while an investigation was carried out.
The search centred around a block of apartments at the junction of Northumberland Road and Manchester Street.
Nearby Chorlton Street was also taped off.
GMP later said the item was found to be 'non-suspicious'.
Residents going back to their homes were not allowed in as the probe continued.
"Police were called with a report of a suspicious package at a property on Chorlton Street, Old Trafford," a GMP spokesperson said.
"Officers along with fire and ambulance services attended the scene and a cordon was put in place as a safety precaution.

"Following inspection of the item, it was found to be non-suspicious and emergency services have now been stood down.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: "At around 1.40pm this afternoon (Wednesday 21 July), GMFRS crews were called to reports of an incident on Manchester Street, Old Trafford.
"Two appliances from Ramsbottom fire station attended in support of colleagues from Greater Manchester Police.
"Firefighters were at the scene for just over two hours."
