Samoan consulate evacuated after suspicious package found

The Samoan consulate in south-western Sydney has been evacuated after a suspicious package was found, police say.

Emergency services were called to the consulate on Scott Street, Liverpool at around 10.00am.

NSW Fire and Rescue said 10 people were evacuated from the building as a precaution and hazardous material specialists were called to the scene.

The package has been seized and is being forensically examined by emergency services.

A Fire and Rescue spokesman said the package was unopened.

The Australian Federal Police (AFP) released a statement saying the circumstances surrounding the incident were being investigated.

"As this matter is subject to further inquiries it is not appropriate to provide further information that may impact on the investigation," they said.

The building was re-opened just before 11.00am.
