'Suspicious men' seen approaching women at park

Police have asked visitors to a Runcorn beauty spot to report sightings of "suspicious" men approaching women.

Runcorn Local Policing Unit (LPU) posted on its social media to say officers were aware of "recent incidents" at the Town Park.

The guarded post held back from implying any criminal conduct and urged concerned residents to make contact.

It issued no further information on the alleged nature of the incidents, although the ECHO is aware of a variety of speculation and reports on social media.

The Town Park has experienced a rise in usage in recent months following a revamp of some of its paths as part of a longer term £1.4m refurbishment project.

Lockdown rules barring unnecessary travel has also led to more residents exercising and walking their dogs closer to home instead of driving out of area, meaning the area is busier than usual.

Runcorn LPU said: “We’re aware of recent incidents in Town Park of men acting suspiciously & approaching people.

“We know this has caused concern.
“We’ve increased patrols for the time being & officers are looking into it.

“See anything suspicious or have any info?

“Tell an officer or call 101.”

The ECHO first asked about the incidents last Thursday, five days ago.
