'Suspicious fire' in Scots car park causes significant damage to stock at nearby shop as cops launch probe

A "suspicious fire" in a Scots car park has caused significant damage to stock at a shop nearby.

Police have launched a probe after the blaze was discovered in the NCP Car Park on Shakespeare Street in Dumfries.

Emergency services raised to the scene after the alarm was raised at around 5.30am on Tuesday, October 5.

Pictures taken from the scene show two burnt out boxes in the car park.

The wall can be seen badly blackened after being scorched by the flames.

The ground can also be seen totally burnt following the blaze.

Police say the smoke led to "significant damage" being caused to stock at an adjacent shop.

Officers are pouring over CCTV footage in an attempt to find out how the fire started.

They are appealing for information and ask anyone who knows who was responsible to contact Dumfries Community Policing Unit on 101.
