Suspicious doorstep callers knocking on elderly people's doors in Pontypridd sees police issue new warning

Residents in Pontypridd are being asked to remain vigilant following concerns that elderly people are being targeted by scammers.

South Wales Police said officers have been made aware of "suspicious doorstep callers" recently circulating the area.

It's now been advised people remain cautious and do all they can to protect elderly relatives and neighbours, with many still shielding or having limited ability to go out due to certain lockdown restrictions still being in place.

A statement from South Wales Police read: "We are urging people to be vigilant following reports of suspicious doorstep callers in the Pontypridd area offering to sell products to homeowners.

"They are adopting forceful techniques and we believed they are targeting elderly and vulnerable residents.

"We received one report that they ran from one house when one resident told them they would be calling the police.

It added: "People should look out for elderly neighbours and relatives.

"Any suspicious incidents should be reported to 101 or dial 999 if a crime is in progress."
