A man has been arrested and taken into custody following a fatal assault in Melbourne's north.
Police are investigating the death of a 51-year-old woman whose body was found in Northcote on Wednesday just before 8pm.
A family member made the gruesome discovery at a home on Brickworks Lane and contacted police.
The woman's cause of death is unknown but investigators are expected to receive the results of a post-mortem on Thursday night.
The 52-year-old man, who police believe was known to the victim, is being questioned over the incident.
