'Suspicious circumstances' prompt police to seal off street

Police cordoned off a road under 'suspicious circumstances' after receiving a report that 'blood' was found outside a property.

Emergency services descended on Avondale Road, close to Southport's Promenade, at around 11.30am on Monday, November 22 under 'suspicious circumstances'.

Merseyside Police sealed off the street between Saunders Street and Leicester Street at around 2pm after it was reported 'blood' had been found outside a home on the road.

The scene has since been closed following extensive enquiries and Merseyside Police received no reports of anyone being injured.

Forensic, CCTV and house-to-house enquiries were carried out by police to establish what happened.

A spokesperson from Merseyside Police said the force has also carried out enquiries at local hospitals and no injuries have reported.

They continued: "At around 11.30am today, Monday, November 22, we received a report of suspicious circumstances in Southport.

"It was reported that blood had been found outside an address on Avondale Road.

"Forensic, CCTV and house-to-house enquiries are being carried out by police to establish the full circumstances.

"Enquiries have been carried out at local hospitals and no injuries have been reported."

Merseyside Police vehicles parked at either end of the cordon to allow officers to close off the road.

Officers were escorting people to homes within the cordon. Forensics officers were also at the scene.
