Delhi: NSG destroys IED found in Seemapuri house

NEW DELHI: An improvised explosive device (IED) found in the Old Seemapuri area of northeast Delhi on Thursday was destroyed through a controlled explosion by the National Security Guard (NSG).

According to Delhi Police sources, the special cell got a tip-off about a house in Old Seemapuri while probimng the Ghazipur flower market IED case from January. The special cell had intercepted several dozen suspicious phone calls and based on the data the said house was traced.

The Delhi Police rushed a team to Old Seemapuri after getting a threat call regarding the suspicious article in the area, a senior officer said.

When the Delhi Police Special Cell team reached the place, the said house was closed and a suspicious bag was found on the road.

The house is owned by a contractor who let the property on rent to 3-4 youths recently. The tenants are absconding.

Delhi Police sources said, the Special Cell gathered the information of the suspected youths and verified their identity. It is suspected that they might be working as sleeper cells.

On January 14, an unclaimed bag was recovered in front of Gate No 1 of Ghazipur Mandi, Delhi.

An IED had been found inside the bag which was later defused by NSG.

The Delhi Police suspects Pakistan's intelligence agency Inter-Services Intelligence's hand.
