Back from his suspension, Bears linebacker Danny Trevathan says he's on good terms with Packers wide receiver Davante Adams.
The Bears inside linebacker was back at practice Wednesday after serving his one-game league suspension for an illegal helmet-to-helmet hit on Adams Sept. 28 in the Bears loss to the Packers.
Adams landed in the hospital for evaluation, but he recovered to play Sunday. Trevathan said he texted with Adams to let him know the hit wasn't intentional.
"I just reached out to him, told him, 'I hope he's good. I hope he knows I wasn't trying to harm him. I was just trying to make a play,' " Trevathan said. "He was real cool. He plays football hard and he plays it good."
Trevathan said he offered the same explanation in the appeals process that reduced his original suspension from two games.
Adams, who told Green Bay reporters he doesn't think Trevathan is a dirty player, was cleared from concussion protocol and had seven catches for 66 yards and two touchdowns in the Packers' 35-31 victory over the Cowboys. That included the winning 12-yard catch from Aaron Rodgers with 11 seconds to play.
Trevathan said he watched Monday's Bears game from home.
"It hurt just to not be there, but I grew from that," he said. "It made me enjoy it a little bit more when I got back. I'm here just grinding once again."
Trevathan is a welcome return to the Bears, who are dealing with injuries to inside linebackers Nick Kwiatkoski and John Timu. Kwiatkoski, who has a pectoral injury, practiced in a limited capacity Wednesday. Timu didn't practice while recovering from ankle and knee injuries suffered in Monday's game.
Trevathan said he won't let the suspension much change the way he plays.
"I just have to be more careful in situations like that," Trevathan said. "I can't let that slow me down."
