Minister of State for Civil Aviation Hardeep Puri on December 30 said the suspension of flights to and from the United Kingdom had been extended till January 7, 2021.

“Thereafter strictly regulated resumption will take place for which details will be announced shortly,” tweeted Mr. Puri.

The restriction will not apply to international all-cargo operations and flights specifically approved by the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

The Union Minister had earlier said that once the genome sequencing of the U.K. variant of COVID-19 virus was completed, a fuller extent of the picture would be clear. The flight operations were suspended last week.

Through another notification, the DGCA also extended the travel and visa restrictions regarding the scheduled international commercial passenger services to and from India till January 31, 2021.

The restrictions will not apply to international all-cargo operations and flights specifically approved by the DGCA.

However, international flights may be allowed on select routes by the competent authority on case to case basis, said the order.
