Aug. 27--Suspended Notre Dame running back Greg Bryant appears to be former Notre Dame running back Greg Bryant.
The junior, who was ruled academically ineligible to play for the Irish this season, announced Thursday via Instagram that he participated in his first practice with ASA Miami, a junior college coached by former Notre Dame assistant Ernest Jones.
Bryant also all but dismissed any chance of returning to Notre Dame.
"Opening up my recruitment so my next move will be my best move. Kinda feel like HIGHSCHOOL again getting offers and everything hahah," Bryant wrote on Instagram.
Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly said before fall camp that Bryant, a 5-foot-10, 205-pound five-star recruit, would remain on scholarship and be allowed to practice with the team.
"From what I'm hearing, that's not what he's interested in," Kelly said of Bryant on Aug. 13. "He wants to play football."
Bryant had been suspended for the first four games of the season for violation of unspecified team rules before he was ruled ineligible for the season.
He ran for 303 yards and three touchdowns on 57 carries in 15 games with the Irish. He was expected to compete for playing time this year.
Holtz on radio: Former Notre Dame football coach Lou Holtz will host two college football-related shows on SiriusXM. One, "The Playbook," begins Friday (noon-3 p.m. CST, Ch. 84) and the other, "SiriusXM College Football Tailgate Show," begins Saturday (8 a.m.-11 a.m., Ch. 84). He also will host "Holtz in One," a golf show, beginning Sept. 1 (noon-2 p.m.). Holtz coached the Irish from 1986-1996 and led the team to its last national championship in 1988. "This gives me the chance to talk about college football and golf with fans of both games," Holtz said in a statement. "The start of college football season is always a thrilling time for me and so many others around the country."
