Parliament prorogued LIVE: Boris Johnson faces backlash after the Queen agrees to suspend Parliament

Boris Johnson is facing a fierce backlash after the Queen approved of his plans to prorogue Parliament.

The suspension, announced by the PM on Wednesday, will take place no earlier than September 9 and no later than September 12, until October 14.

It was signed off following a Privy Council meeting in which Commons leader Jacob Rees-Mogg, Lords leader Baroness Evans and chief whip Mark Spencer met Her Majesty.

Mr Johnson's plan has caused uproar, with Commons speaker John Bercow and Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn among those launching furious attacks on the Prime Minister. They accused him of trying to stop MPs debating Brexit ahead of the October 31 deadline.
